when it hurts, will we still seewhat we’ve got together, promise that we’ll never… never ever be temporary, ordinary.

Brooke watched as he poured himself a third glass of whiskey and sucked it down just as quickly. She stood, arms folded angrily over her chest, waiting for him to acknowledge just how bat-shit crazy everything had become.
Instead, he simply drank. Just as he always did, Dean drowned himself in the familiar comfort and warmth the liquid left in his throat. Better to fill his mouth with something; he knew damn well the alternative was worse.
“Dean, what the hell?!” she finally broke. She couldn’t take the silence, not after she just shot a man. No, she deserved an explanation.
“What,” he groaned, refusing to turn to her.
Brooke felt as though her jaw had dropped to the floor. “What?” she repeated, coming around the table to face him. She put her hand over his glass, stopping him from pouring another glass. “I think you need to put away the booze and give me an explanation.”
Dean sighed and glared up at her through his thin lashes. “An explanation for what.”
“For why I needed to shoot that man dead! In case you’ve forgotten, murder is a crime, and I don’t feel very comfortable coming to prison for you!” She ran her hand over the back of her head before yanking the bottle of whiskey from his fingers.
“It doesn’t matter,” he began, turning to walk away from her. He couldn’t look her in the eye; revealing his life’s secret was against every rule he’s ever governed himself by.
She grabbed him by the forearm and gripped him tightly. “Like hell it doesn’t!” Her voice almost scared him; he’d never heard her yell like that before. “Now explain to me now what the hell is going on or it’s your ass going to jail.”
“I’m a hunter!” he shouted, ripping his arm from her grasp. Finally, he looked her square in the eye, searching her soul for any semblance of emotion.
Instead, he was met with a roadblock so big, he wasn’t sure he could get passed it, and it scared him.
“A what?”
“I hunt things.”
Brooke narrowed her eyes. “What, like… deer?”
Dean almost laughed, but he stopped himself. He allowed a smirk to linger on his lips as he scratched the back of his head. “No, like monsters. Demons, ghosts, that sort of thing.”
Brooke almost choked on her own tongue. She brought her hand to her head and struggled for words. “Oh my God, I’m dating a head case.” She backed away from him and started towards the phone.
He jumped in her path and slammed his hand down on the receiver, covering it. His other hand grabbed her by the waist and held onto her. “Listen to me, I’m not crazy.” He pulled them into a position where she was able to see the corpse. “You see that bullet hole? You see how abnormal it looks?”
Brooke began to shake. “Yeah,” she stuttered. “Probably because it’s point blank between his eyes.”
In any other moment, Dean probably would’ve been proud. He only knew two people who could make a shot like that and he was one of them. Sam was the other.
“Do you see the black pattern around it? That’s not normal. And I know you saw the lightening-like matter in his eyes when you shot him.”
She shook her head. “My eyes were playing tricks.”
This time, he shook his head and let her go. “No, they weren’t and you know that. He was a demon. And killing him saved my life.”
Brooke took a deep breath and backed a step away from him. “I can’t believe this.”
He licked his lips and rubbed his chin. “I’m sorry you had to get involved. I’ve done everything possible to shield you from this, but I should’ve known that something would come for me. No hunter ever truly leaves the life.”
“You left?” she said, her eyes glistening with the threat of tears. She hugged herself in an act of protection.
“I did,” he said, his eyes softening with genuine emotion. “I left because I wanted to be here with you. And I know my baggage is more than most, but you’ve gotta trust me here Brooke. Trust me when I say I can protect you.”
Brooke shook her head, putting her hand over her mouth. “No,” she whispered, tears spilling out the corners of her eyes. “I can’t.”
Dean shut his eyes for a moment in pain. “Please,” he begged. “Please don’t leave me now.”
